Local 222 Keeyask Project Decision and Award

Wage Increase

Please be advised that Local 222 has received an Arbitration Decision in the Matter of a dispute under the Burntwood Nelson Agreement (‘the BNA”)between the Operative Plasterers and Cement Masons Local Union 222 (“the Union”) and Hydro Projects Management Association (”the HPMA”).

Back Ground:
The dispute that took place at the Manitoba Hydro Keeyask Power Generating Station (“the Keeyask Project”) located in Northern Manitoba, The BNA, under article 8 Cement Masons Cement Masons Wage increases are as prescribed in the Burntwood Nelson Agreement (BNA) Appendix 8.1.2 Reference Classification and Weighting.

On May 1st, 2019 two of the three reference classification had known wage increases, the Carpenters & the Labourer the third reference classification being the Sheet Metal Workers had not ratified.

BBE & HPMA took the position that all three trades had to be ratified before any wage increase would be implemented.

The Union Local 222 took the position that all wage increases or decreases would be effective on the date that each trade reference classification was ratified as prescribed in the BNA.

Local 222 & HPMA concluded that Binding Arbitration was necessary to determine the interpretation of the BNA appendix 8.1.2

Binding Arbitration, concluded that the wage increase for the members of Local 222 relating to the Labourers and the Carpenter Classifications should have been implemented effective May 1, 2019 and to make whatever retroactive payments are necessary to give effect to this Award.

The wage calculation for the two named trades is equal to a $0.66 cents wage increase effective May 1. 2019

So please be advised, that you will be receiving a $0.66 cent/hour adjustment payment for all hours that you have worked for BBE on the Keeyask Project from May 1st, 2019 to current.

I would like recognise the Cement Masons Brothers and Sisters working on the Keeyask Project for their understanding and patience in regards to the above matters, while over a 10 month period these Members honored their commitment to perfume their duties and maintaining a high level of professionalism and fortitude in a show of solidarity when facing uncertainty in an undesirable situation, on behalf of the Executive Board Thank You.
