Plasterers Joint Apprenticeship Training Fund Committee Approved / Reimbursable Training Courses
If you are a Local 222 member, the following list of courses/costs are reimbursable through the Training fund. Reimbursement for any other courses not listed will require approval by the committee.
STANDARD SAFETY TRAINING requirements
To gain access to any industrial construction site in Alberta, everyone is required to have the following standard set of safety training.
- Construction Safety Training System (CSTS)
- No expiry - except members are required to have the version 9 upgrade
- Standard First Aid
- Oil Sands Safety Association (OSSA) Regional Orientation
- OSSA Fall Protection (harness training)

SPECIALTY SAFETY COURSES
Contractor Initiated courses – Members only
Based on a particular job need, our Contractors may request our members get additional training. The Contractor must request one of these courses in order for the Training Fund to cover the cost.
- Man Lift / Aerial Platform
- Card expires every 3 years
- H2S Alive
- Card expires every 3 years
- Confined Space Entry
- Confined Space Monitor

CAREER ADVANCEMENT COURSES – must be initiated by a Contractor

- Construction Safety Officer (CSO) certification
- Leadership for Safety Excellence
- Industrial Construction Crew Supervisor

SAFETY CARDS REMINDER
As you know, job opportunities can come up quickly. As a member, and part of our Code of Conduct, we have a duty to ourselves, the Contractors and to the Local to:
- BE READY TO WORK
- So keep your Safety Cards up-to-date: check the expiry dates on your cards
- Get re-certified BEFORE your card expires
- These kinds of delays can cause missed job opportunities!

SAFETY COURSES

CSTS – Construction Safety Training System (version 9)
|
- Is an online course through the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA)
- Training is done individually and takes on average 6-7 hours to complete

- Upon completion, we provide a certification card
- To register, please call the Training Center at 780-490-4327
- Course Cost:
- Members - free
- Non-members - $60.00 cash
- Card Expiry = does not expire
CSTS Upgrade from version 3.2 to version 9
The Alberta Construction Safety Association has recently added 4 new modules to the course. Although the CSTS card does not expire, Local 222 is recommending that all our members upgrade to the newest version.
The upgrade is FREE and done online via the internet and can be done from your own home; or if needed you can come to the Training Center and use one of our computers. Anyone who previously took CSTS from Local 222 is eligible to get the upgrade.
Please Note:
As part of the registration process, the system requires you to enter your current CSTS card #. If you do not have your card # and you took the original course through Local 222, please call the Training Center at 780-490-4327.
This course is reimbursable to Local 222 members with a copy of certification and a course receipt.

OSSA - Oil Sands Safety Association courses:

OSSA Regional Orientation
- This course is offered at our Training Center
- 1/2 hour video presentation
- Upon completion, we provide a certification card
- Cost
- Members - free
- Non-members - $20.00
- Lost cards - $20.00 for both members and non-members
- Card Expiry: does not expire
OSSA Fall Protection (Harness Training)
- Temporarily, we are no longer offering this course to non-members
- Members, please call the Training Center to arrange for training or re-certs
- Card Expiry: every 3 years
Card recertification is available providing you take the re-cert BEFORE your current card expires. Otherwise, you are required re-take the full course again, and could result in you not being reimbursed.
